Bars in downtown Athens are facing challenges this summer, but they aren’t having any more trouble than they expect each year. The struggling economy is having little effect on them.

While the summer always presents challenges for Athens bars, the economy is not taking anything extra away from their business like it is for many other industries.

The economy may have had an impact on some bars after the sharp decline in stocks in October 2008, but for the most part they recovered quickly.

“Late November is when we felt it most,” said Stephen Wagner, assistant manager of Copper Creek Brewing Co., a bar on Washington Street in downtown Athens. “The last four or five months have been really good.” Wagner has worked at the bar since April 2008.

Good idea for a story and good selection of facts and quotes for the early version. When editing for later, you should be able to tighten the first two paragraphs into one. They say essentially the same thing. Don't be shy about getting right to the point.

The photo works as an environmental portait, though you might have worked to get the TV out of the frame and applied the rule of thirds in framing. Good ID in the cutline, but it needs a predicate and a time element.
